What The Echo said... Saturday 20th December

Irreverent festive fare for adults

If conventional panto leaves you cold, this irreverent festive serving from Blag It Theatre Company might be for you. Make no mistake, A Christmas Corral: A Tagliatelle Western is a pantomime fair and square, with a fabulous dame, a bad man with bad clothes and plenty of audience members bellowing 'Oh, no he isn't!' But the complete absence of children from the Talking Heads in Portswood enables Julia Campone's production to get away with far more than a few smutty jokes.
Brace yourself for a whirlwind tour of the Dickens inspired bloody feud between Deputy Scrooge (Tony Joyce) and his boss Sheriff Marley (Tony Webb).

The performance opens with the star of the show, The Prospector (Noel Creighton), narrating. He is energetic and witty, encouraging friendly heckling from the audience through an enormous false beard. Other highlights include the shady Madam, Ma Belle (Maria Hutchings) and Ma Donna (Vernon Harfield) You will struggle to find a more hilarious dame than Harfield, or such lengthy false eyelashes. Harfield's costume is one of many superb outfits. It's difficult to imagine were wardrobe managed to find 'Blind Date' host Crotchett's (Matt Stevens) sparkling bright pink fur cowboy suit, for instance.
A Fantastic Christmas show, with innuendo, shameless puns and even bitter taxman-related humour: If you are lucky enough to get a ticket, you'll be in stitches all evening. A Christmas Corral: A Tagliatelle Western runs until tonight.
